My Big Fat Ride - Humorous Blog About Sustaining A Healthier Lifestyle
After many years of self-indulgence and too many burritos, I thought it was high time to do something about it. Last June, I made a commitment to losing weight, getting in shape and doing all the things I was afraid to do because of my weight. Since then, I have lost more than 80 pounds and for the first time in more than a decade—I feel like I am in shape—even though my shape doesn’t look like it. Well, actually, "round", technically, is still a shape. Call it a tipping point in my life—I feel better about who I am and can see a clear path to sustaining my new lifestyle.
On January 13th, 2006, I committed to raising $5,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through their Team in Training organization. I committed to complete a century bike ride on June 4th in the Sierras. I would not sign up for this if I did not feel like I could accomplish this challenge—both physical and financial. I am committed to losing the required weight, increasing my stamina, and putting time in the saddle to accomplish this ride. I need your help to accomplish the fund raising portion. I am asking you to support me as you have in my life and my career by giving generously to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Team in Training raises millions of dollars to fight blood cancers, help victims, and raise awareness. As part of the challenge I'm taking on a personal challenge of completing a grueling 100 mile bike ride over 2 mountain passes starting at mile high air (or lack of air) on June 4th. The personal challenge is a symbolic way of showing that great challenges, like fighting blood cancers, can be defeated. With continued research and care for the afflicted, these diseases will be overcome.
This is a great cause and, having seen the effects of leukemia first hand, know that these are diseases that have to be overcome. If you, or anyone you know are interested in supporting this cause please check out my web page at http://www.active.com/donations/fundraise_public.cfm?key=scott_leatherman

This is great information! Certainly it makes sense to leave the mom in control of how much medicine she needs. Reply to this
