My Big Fat Ride - Humorous Blog About Sustaining A Healthier Lifestyle

I did my first team ride last weekend. We did two flat 7-mile loops. In between, they taught us how to change a flat on our back tire. (This was reminiscent of learning to ski as a kid-getting all the gear on, side stepping up the hill, and then having the instructor push you over-so you can learn how to get up.) Popping off a perfectly good tire and pulling the tube out was a tough—but good lesson. On Sunday, I did a 15-mile ride with a friend around San Mateo.

I do not look like, dress like and most unfortunately ride like my fellow Team in Training riders. I am slower then everyone else-to try to counteract some of the difference, I am trading my Mt Bike for a road bike. I order it off of EBay and it should be here by Thursday. Stamina has not been an issue yet-just physics.

Everyone - please meet my new best friend (aint she a beaute!) I will have to save the introduction to the seat later-currently we are not speaking terms.

This Saturday, I have a 25-mile ride-called the Portola Loop. We are going to do time trials to better group us as riders of the same speed and skill level. I have a couple goals, one is finish the ride, do not put my feet down climbing San Hill Road and to stay out of the remedial group of riders. I am still struggling with the fear of the unknown-once I have more miles under me-then I will only dread the hills and not the rest of the silly stuff.

The people at Team in Training from Staff to other participants seem like good people.

Once again, thanks for your support and for donating to the Leukemia Society. Just in the case you know some one who would be interested in joining team in training or would like to make a donation - send them this link. http://www.active.com/donations/fundraise_public.cfm?key=scott_leatherman
